NSGA: Sporting Goods Purchases Over the Internet Grow
According to data from the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA), purchases of sports equipment on the Internet have gone from 1.4% of the total equipment market in 1999 to 10.1% in 2007. Since 2000, Internet purchases of sports equipment have gone from $750 million to more than $2.5 billion -- a 242% increase in Internet sports equipment purchases. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said it settled charges that Golf Galaxy, a unit of Dick's Sporting Goods Inc, violated U.S. antitrust law by reaching an agreement with a potential competitor, Golf Canada, that barred a potential competitor from entering the U.S. market for a certain time period. Deckers Expects to Exceed Q3 Guidance
Deckers Outdoor Corporation expects third quarter 2008 sales, ended Sept. 30, to be approximately $195 million, which would represent an increase of 51% over 2007 levels, up from its previous guidance of an increase of approximately 34%.
